Who We Are…

Following our Founding Vision and Mission the St. Petersburg Opera Guild is dedicated to its support of the performing arts, particularly opera. Founding and Evolution: Established in 1964 as the Service Guild of the St. Petersburg Civic Opera Guild, the organization was created to support education and promote music appreciation within the community. It rebranded in 2015 to align more closely with the St. Petersburg Opera Company and its educational programs.

Our Endeavors…

Support for Young Talent: The Guild launched its first vocal competition in 1970 to encourage high school students, which has since expanded to include college and young professionals, providing scholarships and cash prizes to foster vocal education. Thanks to the growing generosity of Guild members and the wider community, prize funds expanded, providing vital financial support to talented young vocalists pursuing careers in opera and musical theater.

Community Engagement: The Guild actively supports local opera productions, particularly through financial grants and educational outreach, including co-sponsoring the children’s opera “Pinocchio” and providing resources for school performances.

St Pete Opera Company Support: The St. Pete Opera Guild has a firm commitment to supporting opera in the Tampa Bay area, particularly the St. Petersburg Opera company. Each year the Guild provides a financial grant to SPO, encourages attendance at the multiple productions throughout the season, and supports the education in the local schools.

Embracing the Future…

The Guild looks forward to hosting vocal competitions to shape future opera stars, supporting the St. Petersburg Opera Company, and introduces youth to opera. The SPOG signature fundraising event, the Silver Bells Luncheon, remains our significant fundraiser, typically held in early December, and continues to play a vital role in sustaining the Guild’s mission of support and education.
